I bought 4 Drones on E-bay a year or so ago that have twin-linked burst cannons.

   - First, is their actually an up-grade like this?

   -  Second, was I a fool(I.e. for buying them, not for other things)?

Burst cannons/drones (even though they are not drones really but look like them) are used on vehicles like Hammer Heads or Devil Fish (I think they are upgrades on Devil Fish but I haven't played Tau in a while so I forget).

They can not be removed and float around by themselves like other drones they are apart of the vehicle. (like a pintle bolter on a Rhino)

I would purchase them from you if I can see them.  If they are what I think they are having them on a Hammer Head is cheaper than the smart missle system so it is a good way to shave some points off an expensive tank.

If it is a drone with 2 guns (these are twin linked carbide) on it vs the one gun that has 4 barrels like a gattling gun then these are standard drones that every one has to many of already.

Those are likely legitimate FW models (or someone's attempt to replicate them)

they are heavy gun drones and they exist in several  FW books, the more prominant being IA3: the Taros Campaign.  they are pretty cool except that they are a HS choice in an army of MUCH better HS choices.

the good news is that with some additional converting, they could be used and the new Stealth fighter possibly...of which there are rumors of...

If anyone is interested, I have one set of Tau heavy Gun Drones, unbuilt, that I'd be happy to part with.  They were going to be part of my Simpsons Necron Force, but I never got around to the Smither's conversion.
