I always get sad on that last walk through the Great Hall Sunday afternoon during the last day of Gen Con.  This year was no different.  That is how you know you had a great Gen Con.

I played games of D&D Monster Mash, Alternate Events WWII, Dark Heresy, CAV, and of course a couple games of 40k.  There was also some card games played at the RAM Brewery as well as on the floor of our hotel room at 3am.

Dacio and I ended up rooming together rather than seperately and gave me tickets to all the previously mentioned games.  He set up his bar in our room right away and was a loyal drinkin' buddy and a fantastic "brother-in-arms" in all ways throughout the Con.

Peter and Aaron were there battling it out on Kalkovac with their exquisitely painted armies on beautiful terrain.

Kevin was able to get there earlier than expected and lent his Blood Angels and a Titan to the Imperial forces struggling for control of the planet Kalkovac.

Jeppy decided that sleep takes a back seat to gaming and on Friday he played in all his tournaments all day long then found our group in one of the miniatures halls and proclaimed, "Dudes, I just signed up for a game at 4am and another at 8am."  He then played games all day Saturday and met up with us again for an Apoc. game saturday night.

Dacio's mystery guest turned out to be Card Playin' Mike - who was a super cool dude.  He fit right in with our rag-tag gaming bunch and it was a pleasure having him around.

Jay picked up some stray punk rock kids one night and we sat outside the hotel drinking Pabst until 6:30am.

Leslie entered the costume contest and did a wonderful job.  We also got to witness some pretty bizarre dancing, singing and short skits.  My favorite of which was the Gen Con Players dressed in Mutant Doctor costumes dancing and lip-syncing to "Putting On The Ritz" ala Gene Wilder's version in Young Frankenstein.

All in all, it was a fantastic time, and as always, I was sad to see it end.  But there's always Gen Con 2009!  And 2009 should be super-fine!

Unfortunately I didn't get a lot of pictures of the stuff I should have, and even the pics I did take didn't turn out so well (probably because I was either drunk or had the shakes 90% of the time I was there).  :P  Here are some of the pics I did manage to get.

I love the fact that Pete and Aaron have the best looking board in that set up!

Who won the campaign?

The campaign isn't won yet.  I don't believe it was meant to end at Gen Con since the table was made to represent the outskirts of the Space Port.

I think all of us involved would like to see it play out a while longer anyway. ;)

I believe that Peter and Aaron went back and forth on their games, but the Imperials did succeed in establishing a Major Victory in the final Apoc. game Saturday night.  So I assume that the forces of the Imperium are now knocking at the Gates of the Space Port.

There should be some updates to the Kalkovac threads coming real soon.

and by the by, Aaron's models where unbelievably well done.  Like, Golden Demon good.  Hot stuff.

And yeah, Peter's terrain kicked so much ass that several passers-by were astonished with it.  One guy even asked how much $ for the whole table.  :)

This was my 25th Gen Con in-a-row and at least as good as any so far.  It was great to see many D-Company members Saturday night.

I played in more events this year than I normally play in three.  It was my first real experience with the new editions of both 40K and D&D.  As much complaining as I had heard about 4th edition D&D, the tournaments were a ton of fun and I have no problem with it.  I even played the Tower of Gygax at 4AM!

My connection flight from Atlanta to New York (with a stop in Richmond, VA) was delayed two hours, then we were sent to another gate, which took another half hour.  When we finally made it out to the runway, we were sent back to the terminal to pick up two airline pilots.  It was about three hours later that we finally got in the air, but about a third of the plane were gamers...including Gary Gygax son!

When we stopped in Richmond, those of us going to New York were supposed to stay on the plane, but they told us to get off for a "few minutes" for "minor" mechanical repairs, we'll it turned into 5 hours.  Security closed so we couldn't leave the terminal, there was nothing to eat or drink...not even machines, but with a terminal full of gamers, we all played D&D...it was actually a lot of fun, and many of us said the delay was worth it.  I can't wait for next year.

Yeah, it was nice to see that the rumors of your demise had been greatly exaggerated.

:D

The only 40k at Gen Con are D-Company 40k games.  Keep an eye out here on this forum for the next Con.  We usually find a way to run something at Gen Con. (even if we have to scam table space from the organizers at the last minute) ;)
