Hey CT talked about a big game at his folks house with just orks and imperium which is very cool however being that we had some great guys from Rock Con come up last year and we try to find new people every year I wanted to see what people thought about the big game at the Post in Bayview.
It seems to be the one annual event that is actually held annually.
I am floating the question are we going to have a big game this year and who is going to tackle the senarios.
I have boards and can reserve the hall but that is all of the involvement I would like.
I could make a couple more terrain boards I enjoy that.
Answer the poll do you want a Big Game at The Post again this year they actually give us a good price and we seem to have a good time there as the bar is soooo close!
Talk it up,

I'm all for the Post. I'm all for Chris' plan and I don't see why the events really have to compete.
So yeah, I'm in.

The last "Big Game" was my first non-Rock Con D-Company event, and I loved it! I would love to make it to the next one, I just need to work out the time off work.

I vote 'yes'.
That doesn't mean I'll be there, but I could sure try, and it'd be nice to know that you guys are keeping it running annually.
Joe and I had some big plans. Then.... well you guys know what happened.
We originally wanted a strictly Ork Vs. Imperials Big Game, but CT sorta jumped the gun, got all excited, and now there is this amorphous blob of a plan sitting out there with "Orks Vs. Imperials at CT's folk's place" written on it.
I agree with Kurt, the two events don't need to compete. Joe's victorious return from Fat Camp most likely won't take place until around June of '09 (earlier than expected - yay! ). Which means that the event he and I are planning, X-Con , probably won't take place until August at the very earliest. That would definitely should NOT interfere with an annual late February D-Company Big Game.

Willing to help. I liked how you were the logistics operator, HD. No need for the events to compete.
Would be willing to see an alternate venue.

We should consider an alternate venue. I'd like to see more of my cash going towards prizes and delivered food rather than lighting and hardwood floors.
Start asking around.

I'm all for it. I'm also all for chris's game. but after talking to several people, and reading posts, I've been under the impression that chris's game was going to be for when joe rejoined us? isn't that a little further away than this feb?
<shrug> I'm all about doing as many crazy games as possible.
I'd also be willing to be involved in the game planning/running. I think I see tim and jay volunteering as well. mark, you still avoiding this type of thing with a ten foot pole?
lets get everyone who wants to help run the thing together. maybe this weekend? I've got off saturday and sunday for the first time in 2 months. gaming!
and then we can hash out some rough ideas, and see what all needs to be done.
I agree with finding other venues, but only if it's going to be a significant savings that can then be turned around for prizes. Didn't someone (jeppy?) know of a chinese place that had a second floor to rent out? Isn't there some indian place that does that on farwell south of brady?
That or someone gets serious about renting out rooms on uwm campus for a few days... that would be free, but it would have to be done in like the next month- they go fast

I looked at the chineese place it cost a foture like 1000 a day he kind of laght at me when I said 15 people the place is for hundereds.
I looked around but could not find anything cheaper that has a locked area room so that our stuff does not get stolen.
If anyone knows of another place tell me and I will give them a call.

I honestly can't think of a better place than the VFW hall.
But, if you're looking for ideas, then I think Slim McGinn's south of downtown has an upstairs room. Joe's graduation was held up there, but I can't exactly remember the size - although i seem to remember it would be about right.
Still, I'm sure it would cost 3 times the amount the VFW charges.

yeah. theres space above my bar as well, but it would be too public, and too crowded, and too xpensive. plus, if we rent out a dedicated bar, I think they'll expect us to be spending money on liquer, instead of just encouraging it.
not that we need any encouragement

there have to be some places where we can get close to the food and beer, and still have enough room to take care of 40k business...look, i have nothing against the hall, but for the money we had to put up, i think we could do better for less and still end up with a great day.
i thought of points east pub right away. we could get the "in-between" room for FREE and it is RIGHT NEXT to the bar and kitchen. however, the space is definitely too small for our needs. the whitefish bay library has a GREAT room upstairs with plenty of room, and for only about $75. BUT...no beer or ready food access. crap!
how about the place we did our pre-planning meeting 2 years ago? they had a big back room. what about a restauraunt with a back room? there HAS to be a place somewhere in the fucking confines of milwaukee county that we can do this in that is cheap and stocked! the less the space is, the more we can spend on beer, food and prize stuff.
would be happy to team up with someone to develop a scenario and plan/run it... yes, i did say that, and in public.

was that palomino? do they rent out?
I'd also like something well lit, that's always been nice about the hall, and I would want to keep that in mind for anything new. I'll hunt around the bars and restaurants I haunt, points would be great if it was 3 times the size.
though at the same time I'm thinking whoever hosts us is going to want to keep our stuff definitively seperated from the rest of their biz... both for our sake and any regulars who 'dont take kindly to their kind'

No. Dan is thinking of Club Gharibaldi's (or however you spell it). That's where we usually would meet for club meetings and fantasy football drafts. It has the bar up front and a LARGE back room with several tables, a stage, and several pool tables.
The thing to keep in mind, as twaimn hinted at, is that bars are... well... BARS. The big game will be on a weekend. Who really wants to play a monstrous 40k game in the middle of a bar on a saturday night?
At the VFW hall, you have an extremely well lit area. Freedom to bring and play your own music. A HUGE private room that is locked up at night (anybody want to leave your models at a bar overnight???). Good bar food and cheap beer just downstairs. And if "downstairs" is just oh so far away for you... well then they also have that little mechanized cripple chair you can strap yourself into to carry your lazy ass down the stairs.
Plus, the VFW is cheap. I don't know where you're going to find a hall for a whole weekend for $75 or whatever you're dream price is. Plus, they've got to notice that we do this every year with them, and some customer loyalty can't hurt.
But hey, look around, finding an even better place would be great. I just have doubts that it is out there.

| My vote is also for the VFW hall. It's conveinent and a good space for the price we've negotiated in the past.

Yeah it is worth the discussion.
I think the venue of the VFW is super cool, I love seeing everyone in the parking lot freezing their asses off before the guy with the key shows up. I love how people enter the front doors carrying huge new conversions and how everyone else turns around and says "oh my fucking gawd what the hell is that?"
I'm not avoiding this thing with a 10-foot pole, just saying if there is no one who wants to step up I'll do it, "it" being a similar thing to what I did for the "bridge" game.
Minus the bridge, minus the "traitor" bit, plus more space for people to deploy.
