The latest Space Wolf rumors from BoLS:

Fasten your seatbelts. Talk on the tubes is the Sons of Russ are returning this October.

WOLFRIDERS?!
BoLS has been hearing talk of at least one unit capable of riding wolves and this might be it:
-The new trade order form lists Canis Wolfborn ($41.25) in the marine section.
He's got a very big wolf in a not so weired way as that sounds.
-Wolfguard Leader/Wolfguard Bodyguard riding wolves!

EQUIPMENT
Always reliable Brimstone has been dropping hints:
-Lightning Claws pah, the Wolves of Fenris have no use for such items.
In relation to this recently released mini:

Others step in to say:
-They are called Wolf Claws in the new codex, you can choose to either re-roll to hit or to wound.

CHARACTERS
-Njal Stormcaller indeed is back, and with a new model, holding a gnarled staff out before him.
-Bjorn is back

MINIS
-2 new plastic kits:1 of them can be used to make pretty much every SW troop choice by combining the oooodles of spares on the sprues with normal vanilla marines kits (e.g. a box of devastators plus the extra from the sprues will make your Longfangs. IIRC there are around 30+ heads on the sprue!!! There may also be a special vehicle, but I'm not sure if it's a complete kit or if there will be an upgrade sprue to add to the existing kit.
-Metal Wolfguard Bodyguard terminators

~Standard Caveats apply, but much of this is now multiple-sourced. It looks like this October timeslot falls just past the September 27th date for Gamesday UK. We have heard chatter that a lot of this will be formally rolled out there.

This isn't the only site that has rumors of Wolfguard or other SW characters riding actual wolves into battle.  I've been hoping that GW wouldn't fudge with the Space Wolves too much, but if this rumor is true... I don't know what to think.  :?    Marines riding wolves???  I just don't see how that could be done correctly.

Early on there was some speculation that GW had advanced the space wolf fluff to incorporate the 13th company back into the legion after their re-appearence from the eye of terror.

Perhaps this is along these lines?

I suppose you could fluff it out so that the SW used to use wolf steeds prior to and during the Heresy, then gave them up afterward.  That way the 13th Company could come riding back on the old wolves they took with them or something.

Still, I get an uneasy feeling whenever i picture marines riding wolves.  :?

I'm seeing a lot of talk on Bolter and Chainsword about the rumored SW vehicle being either a Land Raider with all assault cannon load out or a Leman Russ with all assault cannon load out.

That'd be sweet.

If they look anything like these guys, I think it's worth having a unit or two

I tinkered with a similar idea for a themed 13th company army awhile back. I was going to use the kislev bear guy as the base for "bear bikers."

I think I'm just gonna have to wait until Forgeworld releases some thunderwolf cavalry models.

Those aren't bad models, but with every one being the exact same pose is a little weird...

Yeah, CT, those make for good Fenrisian Wolves, but not Thunderwolf Cavalry.  Big difference in my opinion.

I think AJ is right.  The wolves that Bro Tib offered look pretty cool, and are a nice size, but having them all in the exact same pose just looks too weird.

The only problem I think I'm having with all the conversion possibilities is that 1.) I'm not very good at converting stuff and 2.) as soon as FW comes out with their own Thunderwolf Cavalry models I'm going to take one look at whatever I had created and want to through it in the garbage by comparison.
