all these questions! holy fuck! :D

to address them, NO invulnerable saves...a save that is INV is not allowed.  so the wyches hth save would be illegal.  and yes, that means no harlequins.

yes, we are using kit for both sides.  the backstabber kit will override the INT rule for klaxons on the turn it is used.

the bottom line for limiting mutability was to simplify the day.  there are still PLENTY of options for almost any codex, and frankly, PLENTY of opportunities for shooty Kill Teams with a little imagination...here's one example...Kill Team of Eldar rangers that just sit back and pick off Brutes from range...NASTY!  also, several of the folks attending today have not played Kill Team before, so this is an opportunity to learn the game as much as anything.

C YA THERE! should be a good day. and if ya need to speak to me before you get there today...414-630-0611.

yah,

Kill team of eldar rangers without breaking mutable laws= Totally illegal.

so there is no ill will, I am prefacing this by saying that I very much liked Dan's set up for mutable rules in this tourney (except the INV save thing, which seemed unecesary and not part of the core kill team rules).  I think it was a very smart idea limit "How many mutable laws can I break without getting into trouble" conversations.

In doing this however, I have noticed a strong trend towards wanting HTH units. I quickly killed my idea for a Tau Kill team, as I was limited to 5 or so models in my entire army.(none of which worked together synergistically)  With Items like Heavy Bolters, Rokkit launchas being unacheivable and other items like flamers being a "1 per army" thing,  It's tough to make a shooty list which REALLY works after turn 2 0r 3 (when Claxons will have amassed so much that they will quickly be swarmed by brutes.)  I think maybe a storm trooper list consisting of all Grenade launchers and a PW sgt could be pretty cool... but looks kind of ugly (Which one of the GL guys do we nickname "Ox"!?  I guess you'll be "Ox1", You can be "Ox2", you there!...etc..)

It's all good tho.  We all know what we're entering into and hopefully everyone comes prepared.  See you on the felt covered battlefield all!!!:):):):):)

the day after...

first, thanks to all those who showed up.  i think everyone had a great day playing a relatively unknown side of 40k.  most importantly, it was a great learning experience for EVERYONE.  this turned out to be a great trial run for the next event which we hope will have more folks in attendance.  lots of good conversation and feedback as well...bradon and i had an intense, thoughtful exchange regarding changes that should be made before the next round.  lots of other good brainstorming as well.  we played 8 games of 40k in about 7 hours; not bad for a saturday afternoon.  and most importantly for me; with more participants, the person running the event will NOT be playing next time!

some of the more important changes we discussed...allowing invulnerable saves, allowing more choices for breaking mutable rules, scoring method (round robin, swiss, brackets), more resources for the brute team for balance.  all of these make sense after playing for the day, and will probably be incorporated into the next event.

speaking of which, we are already planning another KT Tourney...probably in the break between GENCON and ROCKCON...that would put it sometime in late Sep, early Oct.
