There's been some debate about a hall or venue for a big game. I propose we accept Joe's idea which he smuggled out of fat camp to me in a recent communication. What if we planned an annual multiple day big game for the Rock-con weekend?

If we did it this way we have:

1.) Free Hall (we can always strong arm them for more space)
2.) Free tables (as many as we need) or floor space
3.) A bar with food less than 200 feet away from the playing area
4.) We can setup early on friday and game all day friday, saturday and sunday. 9a-12a (that's 15 hours fri and saturday)
5.) We can leave our stuff setup over the weekend
6.) Most of the out of towners come that weekend anyway
7.) cheap hotel cuts down on dwi problems

We're already doing this on a smaller scale, but if we did a game at Rock-con, we could spend our fifty bucks a guy on drinks, t-shirts and food.

What do you think?

This idea of hosting the annual big game at an actual "for real" tournament or event seems to crop up every once in a while, and my opinion remains the same.

Nuh-uh.

The Big Game, to me anyway, is and always should be a D-Company Only game.  It's a ridiculously sized game that we drunkenly trudge through for at least an entire day.  I love it not because of the hall, or the available food, or whatever the price may be (high or low).  I love it because Brad can feel free to slurrishly announce his love for each and every one of us.  I love it because several of us can go get high outside and come back to the game and not feel paranoid, but instead enjoy the comfortable surroundings of friends (and only friends).

I love it because it is an event for D-Company run by D-Company, and to me, having the freedom to do basically whatever we want while we game in our own little "tree fort" secluded from the rest of the world (wherever that may be) is paramount to a successful Big Game.

I'd rather pay $50 or even $75 if it meant that we could ALL get together, game, drink, and generally have a grand ol' time without soccer moms being appalled mere feet from us or having to be mindful of not stumbling into some 6 year-old.  I want to play and talk and laugh with YOU GUYS.  I don't wanna explain 40k to some dude/kid/mom who comes up and asks what it is we're doing.  I wanna game.  I wanna get drunk.  I wanna say the word 'Fuck' about a thousand times, loudly.  I wanna see Jay in Pabst boots again.  I wanna see someone light their farts on fire.

What he said :D

Think of it this way the price of gas and hotel would be what our cost is each for the hall.

Also, how would you run all the cool Rock Con stuff that you have made famous and be in the big game or anyone else be in the big game if they are helping run events?

I love you Steve :D

AN APPEAL TO HEAVEN:

Wolfie,
I was going to quote the parts of your post that I agreed with and thought were pure post poetry. However, I found that I would have quoted the whole thing.

The fact of the matter is, there should be BOTH. I think Terry has done a great job in making friends, connections and tradition in the Rock Con scene that would make Robespierre blush. This should be continued. I truly hope to make Rock Con one of these times, however, real life keeps getting in the way. Soon enough, I say. Soon enough.

I am thankful for being let into the "Big Game" and D-Company scene almost 5 years ago. I think the Big Game should maintain a sense of Milwaukee-esque purity, a dash of moderate tradition, and a good dollop of selfish prejudice. Essentially, new people to the Big Game should be invited with a sense of trepidation and prudence, and the paradigm of "bunch of friends, unabashed" should be celebrated. Existing friends should be encouraged to attend, and I would even submit that a pool of "travel funds" could be collected via donation to help our expat members make the trip.

This Ol' Boys club should be used to make the Big Games an advertisement of how titanic the public D-Company events could be. Pictures should be circulated at Rock Con and Tournaments, used as bragging rights about how we've pushed the limits on the size and scope of the 40K game.

I loved it when I read the Apocalypse rulebook and saw some of their so-called "enormous" games and thought, "Pffft. Been there. Let me see something REALLY big." I love looking at other gaming clubs' "Big Game!" sites and scoffing at the laughable scope of their vision. With a congress of trusted friends, we can make the Big Game bigger, better, and more joyous of an occasion than one populated by people outside the circle.

The Big Game should be the yearly membership meeting for D-Company. Informal, yes, but the time when *WE* all get together- if not only in body but also in spirit. Let it be the D-Company Auld Lang Syne.

Robert Burns didn't include the lighting of the farts, but the lyrics get really close to what Wolfman was talking about.

While I appreciate the praise (love ya Brad! :D) and am pleased with the agreement of opinion here, I fear that I may have unwittingly forced myself into some type of informal contract that demands the lighting of my own farts at the next big game.  :?

Perhaps the resident D-Company "Lasers" (KM High School Grads) like myself, Dacio, Joe, and Jake could consume a bunch of beer and beans and put on the first annual "Big Game Halftime Laser Light Show".

:DHaha!  "Dim the lights!. Somebody give me a lighter!"

I wonder if the VFW hall serves beans...

Perhaps we should have the fart lighting exercise out at the pickard's. I've exploded a can or two in the fire pit out there in my day

I'm for the independent Big Game too. And one important point that Wolfie missed in his spot-on assessment:

A Big Game in Rockford is too far away to reasonably expect Mrs. Dacio to make the drive to bring her famous jello shots.
