Hey all, my name is Joe Hastings, I am 27 living in South Milwaukee and am new to warhammer 40k (I played a couple times when i was 16 but thats it) and I plan on teaching my son (who is 8 the basics right now) but am looking for a more mature crowd to play with and get me initiated properly! My email is biggs9281@yahoo.com, I would love to meet some of the guys and get in on any kind of meets you may have or whatever! I currently go to college for a BA in Computer Science ( about halfway done now). Any advice you guys have for me starting off is always appreciated as well. I am buying the black reach set for me and my son to play starting off but will expand to a bigger army as I get more comfortable with the game. I am a decent painter as well ( I am minoring in graphic arts and my gf has a BA in Graphic Design as well) hell even she can paint lol! Look forward to hearing from you guys, I know with the holidays approaching there may not be a whole lot going on til after the holidays which is fine too. Let me know guys, Later
-Joe

Hey Joe,
Welcome to the site. Alot of us live in and/or around Milwaukee. The holidays seem kinda stacked, but soon we'll be gettin' down to some more 40K bizness.
I live in Bayview, and sometimes host little games at my place. I'll try to contact you sometime when there will be a 2v2 fight or something, then you can meet a few people and its more relaxed (more drinking).
As for now, fire away any questions you have re: your armies. This place has been kinda silent.

the blackreach set is a great way to get into this game. You get a ton of stuff to start with(and they're not bad models either),and 2 really good armies with new rules and stuff. My advice would be to get some White Dwarf mags and see some color schemes, and other rediculous stuff and then get a codex.I would start with space marines first considering that it seems this game is based upon them as the 'standard army' and the mods can be painted pretty quick and easy.

Great! I am picking up the set today actually, and I have already started modding my own terrain (turning out really nice actually!) I have a ton of ebooks on making terrain and how to paint miniatures as well as all the codices in pdf format but I do plan on buying the actual codex as well. Since it is so close to the holidays, this will give me some time to get stuff painted and even run a few small games with my gf son. I am sure I will have questions here and there so I will be sure to post them. Thanks guys, look forward to meeting up with ya!

If you want a great starter army on the cheap, buy two of the assault on black reach sets.
You'll need a few bits to make everything legal (an extra powerfist for a terminator for example) but you'll have a pretty good pair of armies with minimal investment. We can help you out with the bits.
Your marine army would look as such:
1-2 Hq's Two Capitans or a master and captain.
Elites: Two dreadnaughts
Elite: 10 man terminator squad
Troops: 10 Man tactical x2
That's on the order of a thousand points. From there you could add just a few models to bring yourself up to the 1500-1850 point level where most games are played. The math is similar for the orks you'll then have.
The two armies play alot different, and you'll have opportunities to learn the game from "both sides"
Welcome aboard.

Bi66z-
I'm not living in the area any more, though will still come in for the big game and (hopefully, soon) other noteworthy events.
But- I have a pretty good stack of back issues of White Dwarf, so if you PM me your address I'll send a couple your way through the post office. That will save you a couple bucks that you can apply towards a Razorback/Land Raider/Battlewagon.

welcome to the d co. I am another newish guy. I met all these characters about 6 years ago and then I disappeared for a while only to make my return these last six months. I am always down for a game and I got boat loads of free time. Shoot me a pm and we can set something up. Even if its just chillin and painting/modeling.
