Wondering those who have played a decent amount of 5th edition games..
are you using more troops? I myself started using a 5 man chaos squad (meltagun) + Rhino/Havoc = 125pts
For a total of 5 troop units, I like this little squad as an objective holder, and I am thinking of using 2 of them for a total of 6 troops, in 2000pts games.. I've found the more troops the better.. Any one else thinking along similar lines?? What are you guys changing due to the new rules?

My current army consists of 5 troop choices:
3 ten man chaos marine squads with powerfist champ, flamer, and missile launcher in rhino with havoc and extra armor.
And one additional squad as above but without the rhino
The 5th squad is 5 guys one flamer one champion with combi-melta and powerfist in rhino with extra armor.
I like fielding more troops i think its fun and i'm glad GW has endorsed that idea.

My previous marine army had 5 troops choices, but 2 of them were 5 man tac squads with lascannons, which you can't have now.
So I'm running 2-3 tac squads, and usually 1-2 scout squads, and occasionally splitting the tac squads into combat squads, getting me the possibility of 8 separate scoring units.
For chaos, Brad has been putting a unit of plague marines on his objective. they are really hard to move!

I am running 2-10 man squads and 2-15 to 18 man squads footslogging.
I have also go the opposite and had 2-5 man squads and that is it.
I just keep trying different things but it is all Chaos I might get a DE game in tonight and that is my standard 6 troops as the base of the army.

My goal in making a list has always been to spend half my allotted points on troops. That hasn't changed since 3rd.

3rd edition tournaments typically had a 40% troop choice for comp scoring. As a practical matter, 40% or more troops usually made a pretty hard nut to crack army. LNot in all cases or all permutations, but I agree with the Major, 40% or so would be a minimum for the armies that I would be inclined to build.

I know the chaos codex is the exception to this but,
notice that the Ork Codex has 2 troop choices (boyz and gretchin) where in the previous codex they had tankbustas, burnas, shootas, sluggas, stikkbombz, grots, and probably something else. Tankbustas and burnas are now in elites slots.
Notice as well the Space marine codex has two troops choices.
I don't think they are trying to homogenize armies, but are more concerned with forcing players to take that 40% troops list. If you don't dedicate a good amount of thought to your troops selections you could find yourself out in the cold in a "Seize Ground" or "Take and Control" mission.

I would agree the current scenarios require you to play more troops and even more balanced.
Although I have been trying the unbalanced way a few times you may not win but neither does the other guy

Ok, 4 11 ork squads w/nob plwrclaw,eavy armor,bosspole on trukks(buy them how you wish,)is an awesome,mind numbing,troop choice.
Lasts nights game was incredible. Jay,great game ! But the flank attack done by those guys on trukks was unbelivable.(and not because i was rolling particularly well, however Jay was rolling poorly)This is the second game I've had using this kind of force, and I'm totally sold on it.
Troops win the game,so take as many as you can!

'Tis true, my Nobz hit hard but when it was all over I just stood there and got out of your way so you could get your troops to the objective.
As if my elite nobz were bowing down and waving an arm to oneside: "no, I insist. After YOU."
